Wind Mask, 2016, Beau Dick (Kwakwaka'wakw), Red cedar, acrylic paint, horsehair, feathers, 55” x 24” x 13” (including feathers), 38.5” x 24” x 13” (not including feathers)

Original size is 667 × 667 pixels

This exceptional mask was one of the most recent works created by the prolific artist. Employing a unique twist on the conventional colour palette, Dick has substituted traditional red, black, and white for stunning mint green and graphite. Wind, like other weather conditions, is believed in Kwakwaka’wakw culture to be created by supernatural beings.
