Máscara Nacional (National Mask), Carlos Colín, Ink on paper, 11" x 14", framed $800

Original size is 433 × 595 pixels

“We are all Marcos” is the expression in Mexico. The masks that the Zapatista Army uses is not a mask, rather, it is an anonymous face that allows us to identify ourselves for a national cause. We are not asking for our rights anymore, we are demanding them now. This drawing presents a Marcos’ open mask, which represents the warriors that the Zapatista Army are, and at the same time the drawing represents us as tlakatl (human being). The warrior is represented with a feather ornament and we speak blue, the precious speech.
