Daybreak, Gary Peterson, Yellow cedar, abalone, acrylic paint, feathers and fur, 8" x 14" x 6", SOLD

Original size is 667 × 445 pixels

This mask has been carved in a style similar to the Nuu-cha-nulth style although it is Kwakwaka’wakw in origin. The piece illustrates an episode about Raven stealing the box of daylight from the Gusgimaxw village. When Raven opens the box of light he discovers the Sun who is wearing an eagle mask. The Sun removes his mask and offers it to Raven in exchange for Raven releasing him into the sky. This Daybreak mask is a version of the mask received by Raven.
