John Brent Bennett was born in Masset, Haida Gwaii in 1980. In 2003, Bennett graduated from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, BC. For his final project, he carved a 12-foot totem pole. Bennett enrolled at Concordia University in Montreal, QC in 2004 and went on to obtain his Masters in Fine Arts, specializing in Printmaking. In 2010, Bennett was featured in ‘A Tale of Two Artists’ exhibition, which was held at Vancouver’s Bill Reid Gallery. Additionally, Bennett has collaborated on a number of projects with his mother, Joyce Bennett, a well known Northwest Coast clothing designer. She utilizes motifs drawn by Bennett for her appliqué textiles. Bennett is the nephew of acclaimed Haida artist, Robert Davidson.
