Caught in the Grip, John Bennett (Haida), Limited edition lithograph /28, 32 3/4" x 24 1/2", $800 framed

Original size is 2598 × 2598 pixels

This piece features a large Haida design hand with the artist’s self-portrait depicted in the palm of the hand. The looming cityscape appears to be falling down on him; there is a personal significance to this placement. Bennett created this image after having his home broken into, which left him feeling violated and as though the city itself was bearing down on him. Although the city appears to be pressing on him, the Haida hand represents his own hands pushing back.
