“These panels are coming from a very modern perspective in Northwest Coast, but historical in a Western perspective. From artists such as Picasso to Frida Kahlo, colour vs technique was always apparent. I have studied the form my whole life and don’t believe in reproducing the same things over and over. I have to at least try something new all the time. These panels are my breakthrough; they give me the chance to explore theory and technique. I bend all the rules with these while maintaining integrity to the true form passed on from my ancestors.” – Rande Cook
