“These artworks investigate and reflect our long term relationship with birds. Human activity that might seem to be innocent or even completely benign, sometimes results in unintended negative consequences. In some cases the consequences have resulted in extinctions of bird species. The story of the now extinct Dodo bird is an example. Dogs from merchant ships were an introduced species and are directly implicated in the extinction of the Dodo bird. These flightless birds occupied their place within a unique ecosystem and had no defenses against carnivores of this kind. The history of Art provides a context and a description of these dogs.”
