Disposable Dogs, Trace Yeomans (Haida), Oil on canvas, 4' x 5', $2,800

Original size is 667 × 832 pixels

Disposable Dogs is an idea that came from Trace’s outrage at people who treat their animals like they are disposable. They love them when they are puppies and kittens, but that interest fades as they grow older. So many animals are not cared for and abused every day… and this has always bothered Trace. She painted this painting as a homage to animal companionship. The dogs here are cute and have faded names on their chests to represent they once existed and were loved, while the red in their eyes represents that they were abused and abandoned by those who were supposed to love them.
