‘MEET BEAU DICK – MAKER OF MONSTERS’ ANNOUNCED AS OFFICIAL SELECTION FOR VIFF 2017
In the first programming announcement for this year’s film festival, 12 titles have been revealed in VIFF’s B.C.-based Sea to Sky stream, including LaTiesha Fazakas and Natalie Boll’s documentary feature, Meet Beau Dick – Maker of Monsters.
“Sometimes the increasingly insane art market gets it right. Filmmakers LaTiesha Ti’si’tla Fazakas and Natalie Boll bring us this portrait of Kwakwaka’wakw artist-visionary Beau Dick, who took his activism to the steps of the B.C. legislature while his carvings enjoyed global renown.” — Georgia Straight

LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
It has been a true honour to have Beau Dick in my life. His influence was a profound directional force for me both personally and professionally. We forged a bond that made us family. In the more than seven years making this film it always felt like a shared destiny, and everyone who came along to help was part of that destiny. Throughout our struggle to get the film done, my co-director Natalie Boll and I constantly marvelled at how much generosity, creativity, and spirit came our way in times of need. I learned a great deal about patience and fortitude from this process.
Gila’kasla to all of those whose generosity helped us capture this important piece of history; I am humbled. From the beginning, I wanted to share Beau with the world. I wanted as many people as possible to ‘Meet Beau Dick’. I still do…
– LaTiesha Fazakas, Director
