Canadian designer Sabina Hill, in collaboration with First Nations artists, creates art, limited edition furniture and custom installations which merges the rich mythology of North West Coast aboriginal culture with a contemporary design aesthetic.

Sabina’s collections feature native motifs created in collaboration with local artists: Andy Everson, Mark Preston and Steve Smith, Corinne Hunt, and recently, Jessica Silvey. Sabina Hill’s work, imbued with the spirit of her shared Pacific Northwest culture, celebrates two distinct artistic legacies, infusing contemporary design with First Nations motifs.

Her work is handcrafted locally, utilizing unique material combinations and leading edge technologies. These handcrafted museum quality works are authenticated limited editions and commissions that showcase an ever-expanding palette of materials which reflect her highly collectible and evolving design aesthetic.

Sabina’s most recent projects include her collaborative work for the redesigned Skwachàys Lodge Aboriginal Boutique Hotel, the commissioned design of the Signing Table for the Canadian High Commission in London, England, and a nine-piece collection for a Salt Spring Island private residence.

Sabina Hill and the Yukon Tlingit artist Mark Preston designed the evocative entry-hall Signing Table, carved from Western red cedar with a textured black walnut frame topped with glass. A bronze anodized-aluminum plaque under the glass features three Tlingit watchmen. “Their supernatural powers allow them to see far off into the horizon in both the natural and spirit worlds,” Ms. Hill says. Though her subject matter is steeped in tradition, Ms. Hill achieves her bold Northwest Cost carvings through CNC technology that guides a router to hone the wood, a merging of old and new that represents Canada House itself.
