Converging Suspects: Corey Bulpitt, Olliemoonsta, and Warraba Weatherall
April 18 – May 9, 2015
Fazakas Gallery, Vancouver BC
Opening Reception: Saturday, April 18th, 6PM – 8PM • Artist talks 6:30PM
Converging Suspects presents a thoughtful look at the intersection of culture and the ancient art form of “graffiti”. This exhibition proposes that graffiti, while often considered a criminal act akin to vandalism, can become a language of creation rather than defacement. Four artists from distinctly different cultures and geographies come together to investigate, express, and share their understandings of this ancient and contentious art form.
Aboriginal artist Warraba Weatherall from Australia’s Gamilaraay Nation, Haida artist Corey Bulpitt, and the Spanish duo Olliemoonsta (Naza del Rosal and Juan Rico) invite viewers to observe and participate in a thought-provoking discussion of multiculturalism, class politics and personal expression as seen through the lenses of young artists working with converging intentions in diverging cultures.
