“When Fazakas Gallery approached me to participate in this show and said it would be COVID-19 related, I had a flash of what I wanted to do right away.
We were still in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. People were lining up for toilet paper and wearing masks, everyone was panicking and buying ridiculous amounts of toilet paper, masks, and sanitizer, I remember thinking how crazy it was that people were more worried about toilet paper than food and water.
I thought this would be an interesting piece that would mark this peculiar time in our world. Something that the whole world would understand even if they didn’t know anything about Haida Art because we had all gone through the toilet paper panic.
I made this stand for this piece so that it would be ‘free standing Art’ and it could be rolled out to look at and then rolled back up again.
While I was working on this a slogan came to mind;
“Ultra soft, Ultra Suede, Nothing but the best for Haida….”
The title, Eagles & Ravens, comes from a red eagle, a black raven and a red eagle on the roll and the second black raven on the stand.”
