As indigenous peoples of the northwest coast, we have long depended on our waterways for travel, connection, and sustenance. These sacred waters have allowed us to move between villages, practice rituals, participate in ceremonies, and harvest essential resources. Salmon, a critical component of our ecosystem, have not only sustained us through harsh winters but have also supported bear populations preparing for hibernation and enriched our forests by providing vital nutrients, fostering a healthy salmon forest with its medicinal plants and foods.

Water is the most precious resource on this planet. However, in the past 20 years, we've witnessed a dramatic decline in river health due to climate change. This decline has had devastating effects on wildlife and humanity. "Tides" serves as a call to action, urging us to elevate our collective consciousness and come together to address the climate crisis. It symbolizes a shared, unified response to prioritizing our planet's needs and tides push and pull globally.

By breaking away from the conventional formline design and bending the rules, "Tides" captures an audience's attention with its fluidity and lyrical movement. This artistic choice reflects on the collective response and one unified motion needed to address the pressing environmental challenges we face today. Creating a style dedicated to environmental change places my work in this moment of today, and helps me to reflect within this time so I can continue to evolve and grow for a better tomorrow.
