FUK (2018), a solid, 5’ 3” penis, seems something of a formal counterpoint to the wisps of 69°25’43.0″N 132°15’49.4″W (2017). Crafted from various pieces of dark furs and accidentally punctured exercise balls, the shaft is emblazoned in hot pink vinyl letters that spell “#sealfie,” the hashtag attributed to Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory that was widely used in response to international criticism of seal hunting. While many of those opposed to Canada’s Atlantic commercial seal hunt have stated that they make exceptions for Inuit seal hunting, the virulent online abuse Inuk singer Tanya Tagaq received for posting a picture of her infant daughter next to a freshly harvested seal in 2014 was a pointed demonstration of widespread bias and lack of understanding about Arctic life.
