Trace Yeomans (Haida)

Carved yellow cedar and oil painting on board

23” x 33”

“Growing up I felt prejudice toward both my white and native cultures, this gave me a sense of separation. I often identify myself with the White Raven, being half white and growing up looking white. This piece is about combining both my cultures together. I have painted half the white raven in a realistic form and the other half of her wing and tail have been carved in Haida style design. Then blended together in color with oil paint. She is in flight, symbolizing the freedom of embracing both my white and native sides. The moon is feminine power in women, she helps guide me back home again”.
