Artist statement:

I was thinking about endurance, the endurance one has for beading; the time, care, and love that goes into the lines you are following. I was thinking of how beading is all about passing down or sharing your work. In tandem with painting, both media hold onto memories, and I wanted to think of this duality of the materials that I am often met with. Here the beading is the surface on which the paint sits. Painting almost becomes secondary and the beading is first, because in my practice, painting often comes first, especially when you consider Fine Art vs Craft.

This is a painting of my kokom, she sits in front of a fire, back towards us. The painting becomes pixelated. I want to highlight that all my paintings work with blurring elements, and how I use the negative space to offer some distortion for protective measures.
