Finished in an earthen, chalky white reminiscent of clay pigments, this Pookmis Mask evokes the supernatural Nearly-Drowned Man, a fast-moving sea being known for stirring whirlpools and unsettling waters. Its stylized features—protruding lips and circular eyes that read like spinning currents—give the face a powerful, otherworldly presence. Charcoal shading is worked along the brows, lips, and ear tips, enhancing the deep contours of the carving and creating a sense of movement within the form. Framed by flowing hair and feather elements, the mask balances mystery, spirit, and striking visual impact.
