Audie’s work, composed of inanimate objects, ranging from gardening gloves to toilet paper rolls, are activated the moment her sewing needle and beads touch their surface. Through the artist’s intervention, these once functional items are transformed into beautifully ornate and decorative artworks with powerful messages. Ranging from their ready-made aesthetic to their anti-archival nature, her pieces are suffused with references to history, labour, and the body.

In Four-Point Ply (2019), a roll of toilet paper is meticulously beaded with the recognizable indigo, yellow, red, and green stripes of the Hudson’s Bay Company colours. By individually stitching each bead in the iconic hues, Murray symbolically charges the object by referring to the off-white wool patterned blankets produced by the historical Canadian department store upon which Canadian colonization was founded. Murray, in breathing new life into the Duchampian act, suffuses the object with meaning by confronting the readymade and complicating the idea of “home” as a safe space and place.
