This cloth was present throughout the performance piece ‘Bear Smudge’. The performance was done on top of this cloth which was prepared with cyanotype and exposed to the natural shift of a sunset’s light. The fabric was then processed and used to remove a mixture of bear grease and charcoal from my body. The result is a pale blue surface covered in marks of grease and dark pigments. Through its presence, the fabric becomes its own performative body, holding stories and space while existing in the gallery as the marker of a moment of time.
