“Self” is a picture of affinities living deeply in me.
Identity lives in the folds of my thoughts and feelings, which are direct and indirect responses to feedback from my being.

Feelings of love and acceptance in my childhood created space for listening. It was in these spaces where stories were imprinted— stowed away to unpack, examine, and retell through the understanding of my adult self. These stories are lights that illuminate my struggles.
Daughters whose hearts were broken by mothers who were ill-equipped to hold them in love. Customs that were exchanged for camouflage in a cruel society. Innate confidence that was questioned and shamed to death.
Powder, liquid, fiber, and feathers applied to paper in different ways are a process of trial and error. I am trying to find the shapes of self without defining or hemming in the subject because inevitably, they will change. Each time a clearer picture of who I am appears, the more different I see myself.
