Maskosis Gloves are a part of a series of used gloves adorned by the artist to explore various themes. The artist works with used gloves to present different narratives of community contribution and to represent the importance of our hands as a source of knowledge transference through physical touch. Maskosis Gloves were created as metaphorical baby catchers. Inspired by familial artworks, stories, and the painting Spirit Bear with Children by Norval Morrisseau, these gloves are beaded with the bearberry plant in various realistic and imagined stages. Maskosis translates roughly to ‘baby bear’ in Plains Cree. This titling and concept were inspired by the artist's first ultrasound of her son. Following the concept of caring for babies, the inclusion of rabbit fur inside of the gloves mimics the comfort of bundling our young kin.
