HARRISON MARTIN

(B. 2003, Vancouver, BC; Nisga'a / Tsimshian) 


Harrison Martin is from the Tsimshian and Nisga'a Nations on the Skeena and Nass Rivers on the Pacific Northwest Coast of British Columbia. Born in Vancouver in 2003, Martin practices in carving and sandblasting cedar pieces using traditional and contemporary designs. He began carving in 2018 after being gifted a set of tools by his grandfather. In 2021, he was one of seven emerging artists awarded the YVR Art Foundation's Emerging Artist Scholarship. That same year, Martin began working and apprenticing under Rande Cook while continuing to develop his own practice and style. In 2023, Martin started an apprenticeship with Moy Sutherland Jr. With Moy's guidance, Martin is mastering new techniques and furthering his knowledge of his culture and art. Martin's work can be found in private collections throughout Canada and in galleries in Victoria, Vancouver, and Seattle, WA.
