This is the first solo exhibition of Kimberly Fulton-Orozco. Kimberly pursues, in-depth, a reconnection with her Kaigani Haida heritage and the ancestral knowledge base passed on by her father and grandmother. This deeply personal exploration of Orozco's identity touches on themes of knowledge transfer, power dynamics, truth in self-expression, and the cultural loss at the hands of assimilation. The exhibition features artworks in various media, including works on paper, paintings on canvas and linen, hand-finished giclée prints, and repurposed objects. Using a blend of figurative formline design and abstraction, Orozco attempts to navigate the complexity of remaining clearly connected to her past during an increasingly fraught and confusing present.

Kimberly Fulton Orozco is Raven from the Yahgw'laanaas clan and received the name Sáandlaanaay, which, put simply means "first sunrise," referring to a Haida origin story. Kimberly works as an artist, photography producer, and writer in Atlanta, Georgia. She holds a BFA in Drawing, Painting, and Printmaking from Georgia State University, and she is an MFA Studio Arts student at the Institute of American Indian Arts.
